Position: Filling Room Lead Operator
Location: Lafayette, LA
(MTI) is a resource- and technology-based
company that develops, produces and markets worldwide a broad range of
specialty mineral, mineral-based and synthetic mineral products and related
systems and services. The Company has four reportable segments: Specialty

Minerals, Performance Materials, Refractories and Energy Services.
The Performance Materials segment is a leading supplier of bentonite and
bentonite-related products, as well as chromite and leonardite, to industrial
and consumer markets globally. Products offered by the Performance

Materials segment include specially formulated green sand bond solutions for
metalcasting, additives for powdered laundry detergent formulation, and pet
litter. This segment operates more than 25 mining or production facilities
worldwide. The Performance Materials segment also provides products for
non-residential construction, environmental and infrastructure projects
worldwide. It serves customers engaged in a broad range of construction

projects, including site remediation, concrete waterproofing for underground
structures, liquid containment on projects ranging from landfills to flood
control, and drilling applications including foundation, slurry wall, tunneling,
water well and horizontal drilling.

We currently have an exciting opportunity for a Filling Room Lead Operator at
our Lafayette, LA location. The Filling Room Lead Operator’s primary
responsibility will be to review and optimize the day to day work necessary to
keep our filling room on track to meet daily and monthly delivery objectives.
Position Details:
• Operate filler equipment – fillers, capper, labelers, ink jets, including
set-up, start, operate, shut down, and maintaining of associated
equipment
• Supervise production employees/temporary employees

• Train employees on equipment operation and filling workflow
• Must be able to perform necessary quality checks on packaged
products per batch records
• Be involved in production scheduling for area
• Revise and create department instructions and production records
• Be involved in product development stage of product component
decisions (involves customer contact)

  • Oversee first time trial fills (external, includes traveling)
  • Review/approve/maintain product component standards
  • Enforce safety procedures, proper material handling, and wearing of
necessary PPE
  • Enforce the maintaining of a safe, orderly and clean production area
  • Responsible for troubleshooting issues, provide quick
resolution/correction and documentation
  • Maintains equipment calibration and basic routine maintenance needs
  • Keeps equipment clean per established protocols and completes
proper documentation
  • Ability to oversee accurate staging and use of inventory materials,
complete reconciliations and outbound inspections


OE/Lean

  • Demonstrate a systematic approach to minimizing/eliminating the 8
wastes
  • Strive for Continuous Improvement in all processes; willing to drive the
formal OE programs with the tools provided. Contribute suggestions
for improvements.

Other Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Must be organized and complete paperwork in a timely manner
  • Good mechanical aptitude
  • Ability to pay close attention to detail and work independently
  • Ability to plan and organize multiple responsibilities simultaneously
and prioritize requirements while managing available resources
  • Preferred to be project oriented – tackle new projects, provide project
updates, cost analysis, production throughput
  • Willing to be a leader on a team, share responsibilities, give and take
direction and advice, as well as train others
  • Must have strong mathematical, problem solving skills, basic writing
and computer skills
  • Background should demonstrate safety, dependability, maturity,
credibility and productivity
  • Must be dedicated to work safely and enforce all safety policies and
procedures
  • Must be able to work a flexible work schedule and shift work including
holidays and weekends
  • Forklift Operation preferred by not required
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Must pass a background check, pre-employment physical and drug

screen.
*This is considered a safety sensitive position therefore will be
subject to random drug testing as required.

Education: High School Degree, Technical Preferred
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: 3 years of experience in a manufacturing facility
preferred, mechanical background a must
Travel: Minimal Travel for Training
Working Conditions: Manufacturing Area

Work Hours: 7:00AM-3PM; 3PM-11PM Frequent Overtime and shift changes;
May work weekends and holidays
Safety Training: Understanding of OSHA requirements preferred
