PURPOSE OF YOUR POSITION
Welcomes patients to . Accurately gathers, verifies and records all pertinent information required to comply with medical regulations and to produce correct statistical information. Verifies all tests and procedures ordered meet medical necessity criteria. Verifies insurance benefits for all patients.
Your photo ID badge is required to be worn at all times and shall provide our customers with your name and title so we can ensure that we are in compliance with the Department of Health regulations. You should enjoy working with and helping people, and have a preference for routine, organized activities. This department is a 365 day, 24 hour operation and your schedule must be flexible to assist in the coverage. Work schedule will include weekdays, weekends and holidays as assigned. Position requires employees to work efficiently under heavy workloads.
Work requires frequent standing and sitting and very frequent walking to greet patients and escort to various service areas throughout the hospital (51-80% of work time).
Work occasionally involves moderate lifting of materials or lifting and positioning patients up to 60 lbs, climbing stairs, crouching, kneeling and pushing wheelchairs (6-20% of work time).
Work requires occasional travel to offsite business related trainings and seminars (3-4 times per year).
Generally good working conditions. Work may occasionally involve distasteful patient related activities (6-20% of work time).
Must be available to work weekend or rotating shifts.

High school diploma or equivalent required. Medical terminology and medical billing course preferred.
Prior customer service experience required. Registration experience preferred.

Work requires intermediate computer literacy skills to be able to operate in several applications at once, navigate multiple software and manipulate files. Work requires intermediate computer literacy skills for alpha numeric and 10-key data entry, Microsoft Excel, and email systems.
Work requires interpersonal skills to communicate with team members and a high level of social sensitivity when communicating with patients. Must be compassionate, professional, and empathetic when handling patient complaints and concerns while remaining focused on providing a positive patient experience (more than 80% of work time).
Work requires analytical ability to find solutions to problems. Must be able to integrate and interpret data from diverse sources to identify solutions. Independent judgment is frequently required when clarifying insurance issues, explaining financial responsibilities, and communicating with doctor’s offices. Clerical perception necessary to avoid and detect clerical errors and to compile necessary reports. Organizational and multi-tasking skills are essential, being able to prioritize in a fast paced environment (51-80% of work time).
Work requires a high level of mental and visual focus requiring mental application and attention to detail. Work is performed under tight deadlines, must possess excellent time management and functional organizational skills to efficiently register patients. Work involves extended time in front of a computer screen (51-80% of work time).
