As part of the MBA team, the Career Development Coordinator will work in the fastest growing University and largest business school in the State of Utah. Utah County is the hub for tech companies and economic growth and is fueling Utah’s economy through job creation and opportunities. In coordination with the Director, the Graduate Career Development Coordinator identifies and cultivates relationships with local, regional and national, organizations that have potential to hire UVU WSB graduate students for internships and full-time employment opportunities. The Graduate Career Development Coordinator will meet with WSB graduate students and alumni to assess and affect career readiness through coaching, advising, and training for effective job search activities.

These activities include, but may not be limited to, interviews, site visits, networking events, job fairs, corporate information sessions and other off-campus and on-campus employment recruitment activities. The Graduate Career Development Coordinator will provide career development subject matter expertise for targeted WSB student populations, plan and implement targeted career development events, and collaborate and serve as a resource to staff in the University Career Development Center.

Required Qualifications

Graduation from an accredited institution with a bachelor’s degree and/or a combination of education and experience totaling four years. Professional experience including time working in a corporate or other business role that included recruiting, training, marketing to diverse populations, and/or hiring responsibilities.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Knowledge Education/training in a business discipline.
  • Knowledge of hiring trends, practices for likely career lanes for MBA graduates by sector/industry/job function.
  • Knowledge of career networking tools such as LinkedIn, Handshake, etc.
  • Relevant and up to date skills in creation of employment materials such as resumes, cover letters, applications, etc.
  • Knowledge and ability to help candidates prepare and practice interviewing and negotiation skills.
  • Ability to serve as subject matter expertise for targeted WSB student populations, plan and implement targeted career development events, and collaborate and serve as a resource to staff in the University Career Development Center.
  • Coaching skills and the understanding of diverse cultural backgrounds.
  • Ability to network with businesses and others to create career/internship opportunities for students. Interpersonal and verbal communication skills.
  • Organizational and time management skills to effectively prioritize and manage multiple
    projects.
  • Self-starter with ability to work independently yet also work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Ability to connect with historically underrepresented and underserved populations regarding career placement and goals

Preferred Qualifications

Master’s degree

Previous work experience with historically underrepresented and under-served populations

Physical Requirements

Frequently Sitting; particularly for extending periods of time.

Frequently moving about on and off to accomplish tasks, particularly for long distances or moving from one work site to another.

Frequently Talking; expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word. Those activities in which they must be convey detailed or important spoken instructions to other workers accurately, loudly or quickly.

Consistently Listening; Ability to interpret and respond through oral communication.

Rarely Lifting; raising objects from a lower to a higher position or moving objects horizontally from position-to-position. Up to 10 pounds

Occasional Travel; requires a current Driver’s License.
