Duties Summary

About the Position: The U.S. Military Entrance Processing Command, with headquarters in North Chicago, IL, is a jointly staffed command and is staffed by representatives of all branches of the Armed Forces. The command, through its 65 Military Entrance Processing Stations (MEPS), determines whether applicants are qualified for enlistment based on standards set by each of the services.
This position will be filled as a temporary position. See Position Requirements section for more information.


Responsibilities
• As a Human Resources Assistant (Office Automation), you will:
• Disseminate civilian personnel information to the workforce
• Coordinate the Command Civilian Award Program
• Coordinate the Command Leave Transfer Program
• Review, process and provide guidance on various Human resources issues and actions
• Prepare information for new hires and provide general information on Human resources issues
• Utilize a variety of computer programs/software to prepare reports/correspondence/etc.

  Qualifications This is a temporary position not to exceed 1 year, it may be extended, in one year increments, up to a total of 5 years. It will NOT be made permanent.

Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application.   To qualify based on your experience, your resume must clearly describe at least one year of experience which prepared you to do the work in this job. Specialized experience is defined as experience that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled including: Creating reports and/or routine correspondence using various automated systems/software; Advising and providing guidance on human resources staffing/recruitment issues (such as: incentives and Awards/leave administration/benefit programs) to staff; Performing clerical personnel tasks for office such as assisting new hires in completing personnel paperwork, preparing personnel actions, tracking due dates for personnel programs.
  This is typical of work performed at the next lower grade level (GS-6) or equivalent.
  Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone-no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
  QUALIFIED TYPIST: This position requires a typing proficiency of at least 40 words per minute (WPM) based on a 5 minute sample with 3 or fewer errors.
