Duties are performed under the general direction of the Public Works Director or other designated supervisor who reviews the work through conferences and onsite visits, while in progress and upon completion of assignment.
Supervises and inspects the work of the custodian team throughout day and evening.
Responsible for assisting in developing and maintaining a comprehensive and uniform maintenance program and for supervising crews engaged in work requiring the skill, ability, knowledge and dexterity of several trades utilized in the repair, maintenance and care of buildings and appurtenances.
Prepares manpower, materials and cost estimates for individual projects and requires the exercise of considerable independent judgment and initiative in carrying out assignments.
Schedules, assigns, trains, supervises and reviews the work of crews of maintenance techs and other skilled and unskilled workers in the repair, renovation, maintenance and installation of equipment throughout various County facilities.
Participates with superiors in the selection, placement, promotion, training, safety, appraisal and discipline of subordinates.
Conducts inspections of contract maintenance and submits maintenance budget requests.
Prepares cost estimates on the amounts and kinds of materials, supplies, equipment and labor needs of proposed projects; orders materials, supplies and equipment.
Prepares reports and maintains work and time records.
Must be available to respond to emergencies 24 hours per day, 7 days per week, as may occur from time to time.
Participates in all pre, during, and post emergency operations related to, but not limited to, tropical storms, hurricanes, tornadoes, floods, fires, etc.Punctuality and attendance are essential.
