This position is located within the Office of the Deputy Secretary for Highway Administration and is assigned to the Safety Division. The purpose of this position is to serve as the Safety Coordinator representative for employee safety matters primarily within District 10 (Indiana) and the County Offices. Also provides services and support to the Western Region which encompasses District 1 (Oil City), District 10 (Indiana), District 11 (Bridgeville) and District 12 (Uniontown). Work hours: Monday-Friday, 7:00 am3:00 pm, with a one hour lunch period
DESCRIPTION OF WORK
Responsible for providing health and safety services (i.e. Right to Know Law, Drug Free Workplace Act, Fall protection program, etc.) primarily for District 10, Indiana County, but will also provide services and support for the Western Region as needed. The Western Region consists of District 1 (Oil City), District 10 (Indiana), District 11 (Bridgeville) and District 12 (Uniontown). Provides advice, guidance, and support for employee safety programs in a manner consistent with legal, policy, and procedural requirements. Supports Department goals and objectives for improved quality of life by encouraging healthier lifestyles and reduction of injuries and accidents. Acquires and maintains Safety Specialist Certification. Initiates actions to comply with the Department's goals and primary focus areas involving safety objectives. Initiates safety programs to increase safety awareness and reduce accidents and injuries. Provides direction/guidance to highway maintenance crews and garage personnel engaged in highway maintenance activities on safe and proper ways to perform duties.
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements: Three years as a Highway Foreman 2; OR five years of technical experience in highway maintenance or highway construction; OR an equivalent combination of experience and training.
Necessary Special RequirementsThis position requires possession of a valid PA non-commercial Class C driver's license or equivalent.
This position requires that the incumbent must obtain a valid Advanced Safety Certificate issued by the National Safety Council’s Safety Training Institute within two years of starting in this job.
