Patient Testing Assistant

Summary of Patient Testing Assistant Position Description:

Assist in COVID testing, interact with healthcare providers, send specimens to lab, documentation in patient charts in the EMR. Assist with other administrative and on-site training duties as assigned.

Duties of a Patient Testing Assistant:

  • Greet patients arriving to the Testing Center

  • Check-in patients

  • Instruct patients on how to perform nasal self-swabbing

  • Perform nasal swabs on patients if assistance is required

  • Wear and follow proper PPE protocols

  • Send specimens to the lab for testing

  • Communicate with healthcare providers onsite.

  • Inform patients on the process of receiving their test results


Additional Responsibilities:

  • Be responsive to feedback and improvement opportunities as presented

  • Communicate to all team members in a professional manner

  • Potentially assist with training new PTAs <5% of the time

Education and Skills

  • Excellent verbal and written English skills

  • Bachelors degree strongly preferred with a GPA of 3.00 or greater

  • High School diploma or equivalent required

  • If no college degree, 3+ years of full time work experience strongly preferred

  • Healthcare track (e.g. pre-med, pre-PA, pre-nursing) is preferred

  • Strong computer skills with the ability to learn and navigate new software quickly

  • Some assignments require strong second language skills, such as Spanish fluency

  • Reliable and professional, consistently able to arrive on-time and prepared for work

  • Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to adapt to different customer work environments

  • On-site assignments require the ability to stand for up to 4 hours in succession

  • On-site assignments require reliable transportation to and from all assigned work-sites
