Occ Summary Work PerformedKnowledge, Skills and Ab ilitiesLevel CharacteristicsAssists physicians in diagnosing and treatin g cardiac and peripheralvascular disease and cardiacarrhythmias in the C ath/EP Lab specializing in the care of patientsundergoing PTCA, stent pl acement,IABP placement and EP devices and ablations. With increased expe rienceprovides resource andmentoring to new staff while exhibiting enhan ced technical skills.Assist the physician during invasive and noninvasiv e procedures totreat cardiac and peripheralvascular disease and cardiac arrhythmias. Maintain high standards toachieve quality patient care.Comm unicates continuously with the physician about the patient#scondition.- May perform any of the following: # Basic diagnostic catheterization proc edures on adult patientswith known and suspected congenital and acquired cardiac and peripheralvascular disease.# Basic interventional procedure s which may include any of thefollowing: PTCA, stentprep and placement, IABP placement and operation # Basic EP proceduremay includeany of the f ollowing; EPstudies, implantation of pacemaker, ICD, BIV ICD and ablatio ns.Proceduralrequirements: Room preparation and breakdown to includesto cking rooms, daily QCchecks, radiographic, hemodynamic and computer setu p, and room cleanup.Prepare sterileprocedure tray and patient sterile fi eld appropriately for specifiedprocedure type.Evaluate the status of the patient during the procedure; provide ageand gender specific care, prep access site according to lab standard practice, and perform EKG leadplac ement, blood pressure andpulse oximetry setup for hemodynamic monitoring .Acquire and accurately document pertinent patient data in theelectronic health record and enter intohemodynamic and X-ray systems.Operates all physiologic and radiographic equipment safetly andcorrectly.Assesses pro cedure roomfor equipment functioning and readiness. Obtains supplies for individual cases and ensures allappropriate needs of the Cardiac Cath La boratory team are met. Observeoccupationaland radiationsafety regulatio ns (wearing badges, lead aprons, goggles, gloves)Educate the patient of procedure expectations before, during and afterthe procedure including post-procedural limitations and restrictions.Participates in perfomance improvement and continuous qualityimprovement activities.EKG recognition .Provide emergency care, EKG recognition.Ability to communication with p atients, physicians, healthcare team.- The ability to operate radio/cons ole equipment and transmitinformation generally acquired through ahigh s chooleducation. A graduate of a diploma, associate, or baccalaureate academic program in health science (including, but not limited to, cardiovascular technology, ultrasound, radiologic technology, respiratory therapy, or nursing)
Must have documented competency in interpretation of EKG and hemodynamics. Cardiac Catheterization or Electrophysiology Lab experiencepreferred. Allied health professional experience in cardiology preferred.
Degrees, Licensures, Certifications
RCIS, RCES, or IBHRE certification within 24 months of hire and remains in active status Basic Life Support Certification required. Advanced Cardiac Life Support Certification required within 6 months of employment
