OVERVIEW: CHA Consulting Inc. is currently seeking a Surveyor I to join our Survey group in the Norwell, MA office.
The first step to streamlined design and construction is a thorough understanding of a project location's makeup and boundaries. CHA's comprehensive approach to survey work is the hallmark of a successful project. We strive for rapid response. We are a survey group that is focused on the use of advanced measurement technology to improve our process and results. Our robust quality assurance/quality control processes result in accurate and precise work. This is an entry level technical position that provides a unique blend of field and office survey experience and assignments, working closely with and learning from industry leaders. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Become familiar with applications of field survey operations, including the knowledge of various types of data collection methods, field equipment, and procedures used to complete field survey tasks
  • Develop CADD drafting skills and utilizes land development software to process field data, research boundary calculations and digital terrain models/contours, and assist in the preparation of mapping products
  • Become proficient in performing records research for boundary and utility information
  • Knowledgeable with Company and Client directed comprehensive field notes and data collection
  • Support Crew Chief with an understanding of design and record plan content and the preparation of necessary field survey assignment data
  • Become proficient at setting up and operating GPS receivers, total stations, and electronic data collectors
  • Develop an understanding of Quality assurance standards and field related quality checks
  • Assist with record research, boundary, topographic, and construction surveys
  • Assist Crew Chief with field calculations and sketches
  • Travel to client sites
  • Other related duties, as assigned
  • High School Diploma required. A.A.S. and/or B.S. degree preferred
  • NSPS-CST Level I certification preferred
  • LSIT preferred
  • Valid US driver’s license required
  • No prior experience required; however, prior internship(s) and/or applicable coursework preferred
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office is required
  • AutoCAD design software is preferred, MicroStation & Inroads software is preferred
  • Experience Carlson Data Collection, Leica Total Stations, and Trimble GPS experience preferred
  • Good oral and written communications are required
  • Demonstrates a good knowledge about the surveying industry
  • Possesses a strong ability and desire to work in a team environment
  • Must be able to carry equipment over rough, uneven terrain, and physically navigate varying field conditions
  • Ability to travel short-term is preferred
  • Ability to work outdoors in different weather conditions required
  • Ability to represent him/herself and the company in a professional manner to the general public is required
