Position Summary:

MDS (Minimum Data Set):

Responsible for the accurate and timely completion of all Medicare/Medicaid case-mix documents to assure appropriate reimbursement for services. Conducts concurrent PPS/MDS and other reviews to assure achievement of maximum allowable RUGs category. Oversees the work of the Assistant MDS Coordinator. Oversees the overall process and tracking of MDS/PPS/PDPM documentation and transmission. Ensures timely, accurate and complete assessment of resident’s health and functional status during the entire assessment period and integrates all clinical services to ensure maximum reimbursement.

Educational Requirements/ Qualifications:

Professional:

  • Current, unencumbered RN license to practice in New York State.
  • RAC-CT (Resident Assessment Coordinator-Certified) Certification or willingness to obtain.
  • Two years LTC clinical nursing experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of ICD-10 coding or willing to obtain certification.
  • Knowledge of PPS/MDS software, completion, coding and submission requirements.
  • Knowledge of NYS Medicaid Program, RUGS III classifications systems; Medicare PPS program; RUGS IV classification/reimbursement systems.
  • Knowledge of Point Click Care or other electronic medical record preferred.
  • Experience with PPS/MDS completion, reimbursement, and clinical resource utilization and/or case management.
  • Demonstrates the clinical skills needed to coordinate documentation of resident needs and functioning.
  • Experience in staff training helpful.
  • Able to plan and evaluate job duties.
  • Experience supervising others preferred.
  • Working knowledge of rules, regulations and guidelines that govern long term care as established by State and Federal Governments.

Knowledge of Word, Excel, and PowerPoint software applications helpful
