WINTER PARK RESORT OVERVIEW:

Opened in January of 1940, Winter Park Resort is the oldest continuously operating resort in the United States. We are located just 67 miles north-west of Denver, which makes us the closest major ski resort to the city. Owned by the City of Denver and managed by Alterra/Winter Park Operations Corporation, Winter Park Resort plays a vital role in the rich history and tradition of Denver mountain parks, and is also one of Alterra’s premier destination resorts in North America. POSITION SUMMARY:

The Early Childhood Teacher position is a year round key position at the Early Education Center. Early Childhood Teachers are responsible for educating, supervising, and caring for the children at the EEC.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

Teachers have responsibilities and requirements, including but not limited to:

  • To provide a safe, pleasant environment and attentive child care with an emphasis on the children’s emotional, physical, and social needs.
  • To effectively deal with children in a classroom setting.
  • To maintain safety and supervision of all children.
  • To assure compliance of all EEC, Winter Park Resort, and The Colorado Office of Early Childhood policies and procedures.
  • To perform daily child care duties as set forth by the Director, including but not limited to feeding, changing diapers and all other basic needs of the children.
  • To formulate and implement daily, weekly and monthly educational activities for Toddlers and Preschoolers.
  • Assisting the Director/ Supervisor in keeping accurate attendance records for each child.
  • Train and help orient attendants in child care.
  • Maintain the EEC in a clean, orderly, and safe condition.
  • Maintain professional communication with parents and staff.

Teachers must meet education and experiential requirements, register and complete classes in a Colorado statewide professional development system, as well as completion of 15 hours of Continuing Education annually.

All early childhood professionals must complete a finger print and child protection background check, as well as any other required classes or trainings pertinent to their job.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: (State minimum required and preferred)

Early Childhood Teacher

  • An early childhood teacher, assigned responsibility for a single group of children and working under the supervision of a director, must be at least eighteen (18) years of age and must meet at least one of the following qualifications:
  • A Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited college or university with a major area of study in one of the following areas:

1) Early childhood education;

2) Elementary education;

3) Special education;

4) Family and child development; or,

5) Child psychology.

  • A Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university with a major area of study in any area other than those listed at Section 7.702.54, A, 1, A and additional two (2) three-semester hour early childhood education college courses with one course being either introduction to early childhood education or guidance strategies;
  • Current early childhood professional Credential Level III Version 2.0 as determined by the Colorado Department of Education; CODE OF COLORADO REGULATIONS 12 CCR 2509-8 Social Services Rules 49
  • A 2-year college degree, sixty (60) semester hours, in early childhood education from a regionally accredited college or university, which must include at least two (2) three-semester hour courses, one of which must be either introduction to early childhood education or guidance strategies; and at least six (6) months (910 hours) of satisfactory experience;
  • Completion of twelve (12) semester hours from a regionally accredited college or university, at either a two year, four year or graduate level, in each of the following subject or content areas in early childhood education and one of the three (3) semester hour courses must be either introduction to early childhood education or guidance strategies, plus nine (9) months (1,395 hours) of verified experience in the care and supervision of four (4) or more children less than six (6) years of age who are not related to the individual;
  • Completion of a vocational or occupational education sequence in child growth and development plus twelve (12) months (1,820 hours) of verified experience in the care and supervision of four (4) or more children less than six (6) years of age who are not related to the individual;
  • Current certification as a Child Development Associate (CDA) or other Department-approved credential;
  • Completion of a course of training approved by the Department that includes training and work experience with children in a child growth and development program plus twelve (12) months (1,820 hours) of verified experience in the care and supervision of four (4) or more children less than six (6) years of age who are not related to the individual; or,
  • Twenty-four (24) months (3,640 hours) of verified experience in the care and supervision of four (4) or more children less than six (6) years of age who are not related to the individual. Satisfactory experience includes being a licensee of a Colorado family child care home; a teacher’s aide or teacher in a child care center, preschool, or elementary school, plus either:

1) A current Colorado Level I credential; or,

2) Two (2) three-semester hour early childhood education college courses from a regionally accredited college or university, at either a two year, four year or graduate level, in each of the following subject or content areas with one course being either introduction to early childhood education or guidance strategies.

  • All college course grades toward early childhood teacher qualifications must be “C” or better. B.

QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY REQUIREMENTS:

Early Education Center employees will be required to supply and/or obtain the following:

  • First Aid Certification
  • Infant/Child CPR certification
  • Record of immunizations
  • Physical examination
  • Fingerprints
  • Central Registry Background check
  • Three written references
  • Emergency contact information

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS:

When authorized, may drive a 15 passenger van with children and adults to field trips and activities.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Able to lift, carry, or otherwise move and position a minimum of 30 pounds on an occasional basis.
  • Manual dexterity to operate a computer and other common office equipment on a constant basis.
  • Auditory and visual acuity to operate computers, phones, mobile devices and basic office equipment on a constant basis.
  • Ability to work for extended periods of time sitting, bending, reaching, and speaking on a constant basis.
  • Talking and hearing occur continuously in the process of communicating with children, co-teachers, directors, and parents.
  • Routine cleaning of surfaces and toys. Loading dishwasher and washer, mopping the floors when needed.
  • Routine sanitizing and disinfecting with hazardous chemicals.
  • Ability to work for extended periods of time standing, walking, kneeling, pushing and pulling on an occasional basis.

Mountain Environment:

  • Be prepared to take children outside in weather as cold as 5°.
  • Closed toed shoe are recommended due to varying ground surfaces.
  • You will be provided an outdoor uniform.
  • Supervising children in busy, tourist environment.

Housekeeping:

  • Most work tasks are performed indoors- temperature is moderate and controlled by environmental systems.
  • Talking and hearing occur continuously in the process of communicating with guests, supervisors and other employees.
  • Vision occurs continuously with the most common visual functions being those of near vision and depth perception.
  • Requires manual dexterity to use and operate all necessary equipment and products.
  • Able to wear personal protective equipment including but not limited to non-slip shoes, protective eye wear, and protective gloves.
