These are the job duties required of the position.Essential Functions
Orders and maintains supplies; checks inventory levels to ensure adequate levels for user department (i.e., linen packs, weck blades, hemostats, etc.); retrieves soiled supplies/equipment from soiled holding areas from various departments throughout the hospital, per schedule and as needed; sorts, decontaminates, cleans, wraps, sterilizes, and stores surgical instrumentation and equipment; cleans, maintains, and operates a variety of decontamination equipment; complies with manufacturer’s recommendation for use of cleaning and disinfectant solutions; cleans, maintains and operates a variety of decontamination and sterilization equipment; cleans and disinfects various flexile fiber optic scopes; complies with Standard Precautions while handling soiled supplies and equipment; tracks lost equipment and instruments; assembles and wraps instrument sets and linen packs according to written guidelines; visually inspects instruments and linen for cleanliness and/or damage and checks instruments for malfunction; reports broken or malfunctioning equipment and missing items to supervisor or department head; utilizes proper body mechanics when moving equipment/supplies weighing up to 50 lbs and autoclave carts weighing up to 200 lbs.; ability to stand for long periods of time; maintains workroom and keeps immediate work area neat and organized; communicates with relief shift relating to pertinent information requiring follow-up actions; communicates and uses appropriate customer relation skills in person and via telephone; responds to overhead pages; maintains accurate and complete records; documents results of challenge test of Sterilization Record and results of Biological Indicator in appropriate log book; documents accurate load contents and one-hour check for Implants on Sterilization Record; documents results of chemical disinfectant minimum effective concentration testing and results of scope leakage testing; initials autoclave printout indicating verification that sterilization parameters have been met via standards; maintains DSD scope processor printout in appropriate log book; assists with the orientation of new employees; participates on committees as assigned; participates in Performance Improvement activities as assigned; regular and prompt attendance; ability to work schedule as defined and overtime as required; related duties as required.
