WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING

The Child Welfare Visitation Coordinator supervises visitation between children, parents and family members in an office setting or in a community setting. Gathers and documents information from the caseworker, children, parents, relatives, case providers, schools and other resources to plan visits, including the schedule, location, supervision level and safety plan. The visitation coordinator takes notes and prepares written reports describing information gathered and accurate observations.

Visitation Coordinators also transport children to visits, health, social services or other agency related appointments as required. Meets with clients, family members and caregivers to review visitation agreements and guidelines; provides clear visitation expectations and maintains safety of the visitation environment. Visitation Coordinators collaborate with the Caseworker to assess level and location of visit supervision on an on-going basis.

WORKING CONDITIONS
The Social Services Assistant works directly with clients who have various physical, psychological and emotional problems and deals with a variety of unpredictable and/or potentially dangerous situations daily. They may encounter situations requiring emergency action to protect the safety or health of individuals or groups. They may be exposed to serious communicable diseases. Most positions require physical mobility including climbing stairs, lifting children, etc. The Social Services Assistant may need to drive in inclement weather and hazardous conditions when transporting clients. Social Services Assistants may occasionally travel out of state, work a flexible schedule, or be required to lift up to 40 pounds.

THIS IS WHAT YOU NEED TO QUALIFY

  • One year experience assisting professionals in one or more specialized social programs such as family services, children services, senior services, mental or developmental disability services, substance abuse programs, juvenile corrections programs or occupational skills programs; OR
  • Possession of a current certification in Child Development, Early Childhood Education, Addiction Counseling Preparation or Juvenile Corrections; OR
  • 45 quarter hours, or 30 semester hours of college course work in sociology, psychology, early childhood education, criminal justice, human services, juvenile corrections, or occupational skills training ; OR
  • An Associate degree in a field not closely related to Social Work/Human Services AND six (6) months of human services related experience (e.g. work providing assistance to individuals and groups with issues such as economically disadvantaged, employment, abuse and neglect, substance abuse, aging, mental or physical disabilities, juvenile prevention, health, cultural competencies, and/or inadequate housing).

Required knowledge and skills

  • Knowledge of behavior management.
  • Skill preparing clear and concise written reports.
  • Skill in interviewing to gather information from individuals.
  • Skill in assessing circumstances to make effective decisions immediately as to the most appropriate course of action.
  • Skill in working with diverse populations.
  • Skill in using a computer to process reports typical to the job.

  • Engagement skills with emphasis on communicating with clients, some of which may be unmotivated or unwilling clients, de-escalating hostile situations and engaging with children and adults.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with the public, service providers, and clients in person, over the telephone and in writing respecting cultural and ethnic differences.
  • Ability to work as part of a team and provide assistance to others.
  • Ability to input and retrieve data efficiently and effectively.
  • Experience engaging and working with community partners and organizations.
  • Ability to narrate and document observations during visitations.

Additional Requirement
Finalists will be subject to a computerized criminal history and abuse check . Adverse background data may be grounds for immediate disqualification. Successful candidates for this position must pass a Criminal Justice Information Systems (CJIS) fingerprint-based background check and maintain CJIS eligibility. Due to CJIS requirements related to system access, the following convictions are likely to result in being disqualified for this position: Felony Convictions, Computer theft, identify theft and fraud. CJIS Clearance is done at the conditional job offer.
