Individuals hired into a temporary State job must be fully qualified for the job. OSHR supports the Governor's Job Ready initiative and seeks to expand a temporary's skill set to enhance their qualifications for State government and private sector jobs. Exposure to an agency's culture, process, procedures and potential learning opportunities can provide valuable experience to those who may ultimately seek permanent employment with the state.

This is a temporary position located in RaleighWake County. There are no leave or retirement benefits offered with this position. Visit for employment information.

Job Order Hourly Rate of Pay: $15.00 (Based on education and/or years of related work experience)
This temporary position will be assigned to the Department of Public SafetyHuman Resources. This position serves in our Application & Testing Section. Position screens an enormous volume of Correctional Officer applications. This involves reviewing the applications very carefully and entering each applicant's data into our ATS system, running DCIs on each applicant, running BEACON/SAP employment history reports on each applicant, performing reference checks, and contacting applicants by phone or email when additional information or clarification is needed. This employee will also be needed to assist applicants with required assessments soon due to a change in our employment processes. Serves as backup fingerprint scanner, backup for the front desk receptionist, and other job-related tasks as needed. The selected applicant will be subject to criminal background check as required for DCI certification.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies

  • Skilled in Microsoft Office products
  • Ability to communicate effectively and professionally with job applicants and DPS employees
  • Filing and written communication skills
  • Knowledge and ability to operate office equipment (copies, scanners, phones, computers, fax machines)
  • Exercise good judgement interacting with the public and making work decisions
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and one year of administrative experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
