    Duties Summary

    You will serve as a MOTOR VEHICLE OPERATOR in the Production Division of NAVFAC ENGINEERING CMD MID-ATLANTIC.
    This announcement uses the Defense Industrial Base, Major Range and Test Facilities direct hire authority to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to certain positions in the competitive service.

    Responsibilities
    • You will complete operator maintenance on vehicles assigned (e.g., air pressure, oil level, water in radiator, adequate fuel).
    • You will check presence of and usability of assigned equipment (e.g., tools, tire changing equipment, fire extinguishers, first aid kits) to determine readiness for use.
    • You will drive and operate vehicles (e.g., fork lifts, tractor-trailers, trucks, full trailer combinations) to safely load, unload, remove, or relocate cargo.
    • You will verify cargo is correctly distributed, secured, or marked (e.g., flags, placards, reflection lights) to prevent damage or loss during transit.
    • You will determine nature of materials being handled for segregation, storage, and delivery in accordance with regulations.

    • You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination and annually thereafter.
    • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
    • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites.
    • Required to have P (Passenger), X (Tanker) license endorsements, H (Hazardous Material), and/or S (School Bus) license endorsements obtained within 180 days of onboarding.
    • Position is designated as DTP, Drug Testing Position and is subject to random drug tests.
    • Must be able to obtain and maintain a SECRET security clearance based on a T3 or T3R Personnel Security Investigation (PSI) in the performance of the duties of this position, every 10 years.
    • Incumbent serving in this position may at any time be reassigned to a similar position at any site or workstation in the commuting area as a condition of employment.
    • This position may be considered Essential and incumbent will be required to report for duty or held in a duty status to provide support before, during and after special emergencies such as, but not limited to, destructive weather or security threats.
    • May be assigned to perform tasks in a non-trade related fields as an assistant/helper as workload requires.
    • May be required to serve on-call on a rotational basis. When on-call, incumbent is required to carry a duty cell phone and duty pager and must remain available to respond on site to after-hour emergencies within two hours.
    Qualifications Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most trade and labor occupations, you must show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time.

    1) Operate and maintain various types of gasoline and diesel vehicles, equipment, and containers used to transport bulk industrial wastes and hazardous wastes from various ships and shore activities; 2) Operate vehicles with attached vacuum systems and hydraulic cranes; 3) Plans routes, performs load planning, performs maintenance on all vehicles operated, and assists others in loading and unloading of cargo.
