UNC-TV is actively seeking qualified candidates for a Social Media Manager in the Marketing Communications division. This manager is a vital leader on the Digital Marketing team, supervising one permanent position, and is responsible for UNC-TV’s social media strategy with the goal of building and sustaining an engaged audience and member base across social media platforms. This highly collaborative role will work with content, creative services, marketing, and development teams to create and maintain an editorial and promotions calendar. This role will develop and implement social media campaigns to increase and build brand awareness and loyalty, increase donations to UNC-TV, drive audience engagement, and strengthen multi-platform viewership of UNC-TV programming. This position is responsible for measuring and analyzing social media performance, making strategic decisions for campaign growth, and providing staff training and guidance on social media best practices. The Social Media Manager will provide leadership and direction for all social media platforms and efforts utilizing audience analytics and research to ensure effective engagement and marketing strategies are utilized in a comprehensive manner. He or she should demonstrate a strong command of social media management experience developing and executing social media marketing strategy, preferably at a marketing/creative agency, or within the entertainment industry.

UNC-TV, Public Media North Carolina, provides people of all ages with enriching media through its distinctive array of programs and services online and via four digital channels: UNC-TV-PBS & More, UNC-EX-The Explorer Channel, Rootle-UNC-TV’s 24/7 PBS KIDS Channel and the North Carolina Channel-Stories with a Local Accent. UNC-TV’s 12 stations comprise North Carolina’s only statewide television network, made possible through a unique partnership of public investment and private support. SPA Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in a discipline related to the area of assignment; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.

Hiring Salary Range

$54,986 to $75,965

Public Communications Specialist (Advanced)

Bachelor’s degree in a discipline related to the area of assignment; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.

Technical Knowledge:
Extensive knowledge of social media best practices, policies, procedures with the ability to serve as a key resource to others on a wide variety of digital marketing and social engagement strategies. Ability to establish standards for social media and develop non-routine techniques or methods to accomplish objectives. Ability to develop short-and long-range campaign strategies employing creative and innovative use of techniques intended to reach a wide audience. Ability to evaluate, implement, and apply new technology and assess its effectiveness in meeting UNC-TV’s overall engagement goals. Proficient in Photoshop, Microsoft office suite.

Professional Knowledge:
Ability to lead and mentor employees in the techniques for executing highly effective and successful social media campaigns. Ability to establish goals and objectives of initiatives and communicate them effectively to internal and external stakeholders. Ability to serve as the social media expert and sounding board for UNC-TV.

Communication:
Excellent verbal and written communications skills and provide ability to present social media strategy to various levels of the organization. Ability to communicate complex and strategic program standards and analysis to internal and external teams and clients while maintaining positive working relationships. Ability to plan and convey messages that enhance and promote the mission and objectives of UNC-TV. Ability to set and enforce social media standards and protocols to internal and external stakeholders, such as executive producers.

Consulting/Advising:
Serve as a subject matter expert in social media strategy and digital content development. Ability to advise, coach, and provide leadership on issues which require an in-depth understanding of digital marketing and social media initiatives. Ability to enhance collaboration among producers and other staff/teams and build consensus when dealing with opposing points of view related to social media strategy and aesthetics.

Project Management:
Ability to independently manage project timelines, resources, and a team while aligning goals with broader organizational objectives and budgetary resources. Develop and manage social media budgets with director of digital marketing for campaign initiatives. Ability to plan, coordinate, direct and supervise the work of others, including a full-time digital engagement specialist. Highly organized and able to manage multiple projects at once.

Organizational Sensitivity:
Ability to translate the vision, mission, and goals for UNC-TV and Marketing Communications into social media strategies. Capacity to understand internal workings of the organization in relation to the external global expectations of policy makers and the legislature. Ability to intervene and re-direct social media communication efforts that are ineffective.
